Meet on Colley Reserve adjacent to the rotunda.
The Beach Section training can be varied from week to week depending on the competition calendar and the skill set/fitness of members. But generally the sessions will follow the following format:
- Warm Up - this consists a light warm up jog, stretching and warm up drills such as knee lifts and core exercises. Key skills are also discussed at this time to reiterate coaching messages.
- Running Drills - this focuses on running style and skills execution, drills conducted could be between 30m and 120m. This period is also used to increase fitness and speed with multiple repetitions. Some of these drills could be located on the beach but most of our work is undertaken on Colley Reserve.
- Warm Down - An essential part of the training regime, the athletes are thoroughly warmed down using a light jog, stretching and on occasion water therapy.
The coaching team strives to make these sessions as interesting and as fun as possible. We try to eliminate too much repetition in an environment which is positive and constructive.
All members wishing to attend training should bring the following:
- Plenty of water for hydration.
- Jogging Shoes/Sneakers are recommended for use on Colley Reserve. Bare feet can be a safety issue when running on Colley Reserve.
- Sprint spikes (recommended but not a requisite).
- Towel to be used during warm up, warm down and after any water work.
- Bathing attire to be worn during water sessions.
Hot Weather Policy
The coaching team may determine that hot temperatures may be a factor during training and tailor the sprint sessions accordingly. This may mean a shorter running component in the session or some or most of the work to be undertaken on the beach and/or in the water.
Inclement Weather Policy
The coaching team may change the training format due to inclement weather. Where this becomes a factor we may undertake a limited sprint session with part of the session in the gym or other activities identified as beneficial, such as core exercises.
Beach Section - Flags Training
It is envisaged that there will be at least one dedicated beach flags training session each week during the season. This will bring together both senior athletes and junior athletes together for training.
Whilst we would like to encourage as many juniors to undertake additional training outside of the weekend format, generally these sessions will be for the junior athletes who show the most potential.
We wish to ensure we can coach the group efficiently and this is not possible with large numbers of athletes.
Training Day TBA - will hopefully be a Wednesday night 5.30pm - 7.00pm. I will need to liaise with Peter Tidswell closer to the season to ensure we do not have any conflicts with other junior activities.
