Beach

Beach training and competition is a great way for new members to contribute to the club, and many have gone on to compete in the South Australian Athletic League.  Long time beach coach Leigh Bowbridge, has handed over to Luke Hildyard and Lachy Greethead, although we're sure he'll still be involved.  They are both very approachable and welcome all new runners.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING

Off season training is continuing for our dedicated group of beachies. If you are planning on competing on the beach during the upcoming season then now is the best time to start thinking about your pre-season program. Come down to the club and ask myself or Luke Hildyard, the Beach Coach, about what you should be doing. All members are welcome to join the training sessions currently being held:

Monday 17.30pm – 19.30pm

Wednesday 17.30pm – 19.30pm

Meet under the balcony on the beach side of the club.

Once daylight saving commences we will be back out on Colley Reserve. The current program consists of a thorough warm up, medium to light running session and a gym session.

I hope everyone has a great Spring, bring on summer!

AUSSIES 2010

The beach section mourned the loss of Saxon Bird at the 2010 Australian Titles. With heavy hearts we made our way to Kurrawa Beach to be the only competition arena still operating for the rest of the weekend.  Well done to all involved.

Beach Relay

The coaching team would like to acknowledge the following competitors who competed extremely well at Aussies:

Cameron Hext – made it to the final of the under 17 men’s beach flags competition. To make it into the top 8 in the country in his age group is a stellar achievement. We look forward to watching Cameron’s development in the next few years.

Declan Macauley – plowed through the early rounds of the under 17 men’s beach flags to come a whisker short of the finals.

Ethan Macauley and Edward Daw – Also did themselves proud in the under 15 men’s beach flags with both competitors making it through several rounds to be unlucky in not progressing to the finals.

Hannah Sage – with grit and determination Hannah slogged it out in the under 15 women’s beach flags. She was consistently one of the strongest performers in her group before she copped an elbow to the face, which saw her retire hurt from the competition.

Leigh Bowbridge – our beach section stalwart was unlucky in his beach sprint and beach flags this year and came home in a very respectable 4th in both events, well done Leigh.

Luke Hildyard – our Head Beach Coach thrilled his charges in progressing through his master’s beach flags events this year, but was unlucky at the end of the round. Well done Luke.
